City Council Update, October 16, 2023

City Council received a Community Development Report and approved the Holiday Parade and various cleanup tasks in the zoning ordinance.

The Community Development Director gave her department's annual report. Some of the more notable items:

  • The Berkley Outdoor Social Scene (BOSS) Social District is expected to open soon. This will allow outdoor liquor consumption on Twelve Mile from approximately Tyler to Kipling Avenue.
  • An online portal for building permits will be available in the spring.

The Holiday Lights Parade and Tree Lighting were approved. The parade is on December 2 starting at 5:30pm followed by the tree lighting at City Hall.

The first reading of two small zoning ordinance changes was passed to clarify and streamline some things.

Several contracts were approved that include providing snow removal on 12 Mile, rock salt sales to Huntington Woods, fuel sales to the Berkley School District, and technical assistance with our GIS system with the city engineers HRC.

The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss confidential attorney/client privileged communications. No action was taken.
